about
Welcome to Katamat Designs' online home.
My weaving explores the beauty, texture, and expressive potential of natural fibres. Working with silk, bamboo, cotton, wool, alpaca, and linen, I create textiles that celebrate the tactile and visual qualities of handwoven cloth. Many of my fibres are hand-dyed, allowing me to develop subtle colour transitions and rich surface depth that enhance the woven structure.
Inspired by the rhythms of nature, changing light, and the enduring traditions of textile craftsmanship, I combine technical precision with creative experimentation. The interaction of colour, texture, and pattern is central to my work, as each fibre contributes its own character and voice to the finished piece.
I am particularly drawn to weaving because it is one of humanity's oldest and most universal crafts. Variations of the same fundamental techniques have been practiced for centuries across virtually every civilization, creating a tangible connection between contemporary makers and generations of artisans who came before us.
More recently, my practice has expanded into three-dimensional fibre art. I am exploring the sculptural possibilities of woven baskets and artistic forms using rattan, paper, and found natural materials.
Whether woven as cloth or as sculpture, my work investigates how interlaced fibres can create strength, movement, and a sense of place.
Through both textile and sculptural weaving, I seek to create work that invites touch, contemplation, and connection while honouring the enduring relationship between material, maker, and tradition.
I hope you enjoy browsing my work. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.
